EGAT and KKU join in developing Engywall for commercial benefits

August 20, 2021 at 16:00 p.m. – Khon Kaen University held an MOU signing ceremony with the Electricity Generation Authority of Thailand (EGAT) via Zoom Meeting. The collaboration is under the “Engywall Research and Development Project for Commercial Benefits”. Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D., President of Khon Kaen University represented and signed for KKU, while Dr. Jiraporn Sirikham, the Strategic Deputy Director of the Electricity Generation Authority of Thailand represented and signed for EGAT. Both parties’ witnesses at the MOU signing were Prof. Thidarat Boonmars, Ph.D., Vice President for Innovation and Enterprise; Khun Venus Longsomboon, Assistant Director for Research, Innovation, and Business Development of EGAT and over 30 other administrators.

Dr. Jiraporn Sirikham, the Strategic Deputy Director of the Electricity Generation Authority of Thailand thanked Khon Kaen University for the support. She hoped that after Covid-19 situation has been contained, EGAT should be able to visit KKU. The background of this collaboration is derived from the expertise both parties possess on the matter of energy. The “Engywall Research and Development Project for Commercial Benefits” is aimed at extending the knowledge of commercial innovations to the community and entrepreneurs as well as every citizen in the country for sustainable use of energy. The knowledge from research, innovation and technology, including resources of both KKU and EGAT will be pooled for management and development for commercial purposes. Engywall is the reserve system for electrical energy, for which KKU and EGAT will join in its research and development. The length of this project is 3 years, with expectations for similar projects in the future that will bring benefits to the society and the nation.

Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D., President of Khon Kaen University thanked the Electricity Generation Authority of Thailand on behalf of Khon Kaen University for the collaboration under the “Engywall Research and Development Project for Commercial Benefits”. Prior to this, the President had a chance to meet with the Strategic Deputy Director of the Electricity Generation Authority of Thailand. “I am excited and impressed with the wide vision of EGAT and confident that the project would enable us to integrate our expertise. KKU has accumulated the body of knowledge related to energy generation. Now there is the prototype factory that produces Lithium-ion batteries that safely reserve high energy, with accompanying fast charge facilities. The batteries have been certified as the industrial product standard (IPS) and have passed International standard of IEC. It is hoped that the MOU signing today will bring success and benefits to both parties.”
