KKU and Baan Saeng Chan Community Enterprise welcomed Khon Kaen Provincial Public Health Officers to inspect for permission to cultivate cannabis

On March 1, 2022, at Saeng Chan Village, Nam Phong District, Khon Kaen Province, Prof. Monchai Duangchinda, Ph.D., Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies, Asst. Prof. Chanon Lapjitr, Ph.D., Head of Cannabis Research Institute of Khon Kaen University, and Baan Saeng Chan Community Enterprise which is one of the community enterprises that cooperate with Khon Kaen University welcomed officers from the Khon Kaen Provincial Health Office to inspect the area where apply for the permission of cannabis cultivation.


Farmers who want to be an applicant for legal cannabis cultivation must form community enterprises, social enterprises, or agricultural cooperatives and request permission with government agencies then apply for permission along with documentary evidence at the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) or the Provincial Public Health Office where the plantation is located. There will be the officer to inspect the location and bring the matter to the meeting of the provincial committee to scrutinize and bring the matter to the meeting of the Narcotics Control Board to consider and approve the issuance of a license to grow marijuana.

The applicant must inform the planting quantity, production quantity, and distribution. Therefore, they must be following the production plan, distribution plan, and utilization plan and have to specify the exact buyer. They also must prepare the planting site according to the permission requirements, including location requirements, security requirements, storage requirements, and terms of use control requirements.
