Glasgow, UK (Nov 2021 – present)
I am currently Professor of Supply Chain Management & Digitalisation at the University of Glasgow. Over 22
years of research career and academic leadership, my research is multi-disciplinary integrating engineering,
computer science, information technology and operations management, aiming at addressing the fastgrowing
demands for industrial applications. My research expertise can be categorised into 3 areas:
Technology-driven – radio-frequency identification (RFID) technology, Internet of Things, Industry 4.0,
Blockchain, cloud manufacturing, big data analytics and AI/machine learning; Sustainable/circular supply
chain management & low carbon logistics – green logistics, sustainable supply chain management, low
carbon initiatives (net zero/carbon neutral), circular economy and sharing economy; and Lean and agile
principles – lean logistics, agile manufacturing, operations analytics, cost & system optimisation, meta
heuristics, and system modelling. Up to present, I have published over 260 articles in leading journals and
obtained over £2.5m of research grants and industrial projects.

Logistics Engineering, Chongqing University, China (Sept 2017 – Oct 2021)
Up to March 2021, I was Executive Dean of College of Mechanical Engineering at Chongqing University, China.
My role was to lead the College in reshaping and strengthening the research as well as raising the profile
internationally. Under my leadership, our College has 4 departments and 7 centres of excellence with a total
of 240 members of staff, and has over 3200 under- and post-graduate students. I have 4 associate deans and
1 assistant dean, assisting in leading and managing the College, which has 85 years of history and is the oldest,

Management, Faculty of Business and Law, Coventry University, UK (June 2016 – Nov 2021)
My role as a Cluster Co-Lead was to lead a group of supply chain academics and researchers to pursue
excellency in research and industrial impact. The goal was to create critical mass in supply chain research to
raise the university profile and reputation, and disseminate it to the international platform and the
commercial sector. I continued my position at Coventry as part-time professor from October 2017.
Head of Centre of Excellence for Supply Chain Improvement, Professor of Supply Chain and Logistics
Operations, University Conferment Board, University Professoriate Committee, College Research
Committee, University of Derby, UK: Sept 2012 – May 2016 (Professorship conferred in July 2013)
My role was to build a new Centre of Excellence for supply chain and logistics in advanced research and
industry partnerships. I led a team of academics and researchers in conducting research and engaging with
the industry in three focuses: Technology Innovation, System Improvement and Process Re-engineering. Our
major research projects included EU-funded projects “CITADEL on the move” and “AdvIOT”, and a number
of InnovateUK government funded projects. We had a range of industrial collaborative projects involving
Rolls-Royce, Toyota, Bombardier, Unilever, Alliance Boots, and SMEs across aerospace, automotive and rail
industries. We have generated a total revenue of just over £860,000 in 3.5 years.
Head of RFID Advanced Research, Lecturer in Logistics Management, Engineering Systems and
Management, Aston University, UK: Dec 2006 – Aug 2012
Since joining Aston University, I have been providing consultancy to companies from manufacturing and
logistics sectors in enhancing production and supply chain competitiveness, as well as in the implementation
of RFID technology. I have close collaboration with large organisations, such as DHL, NHS, Tesco Express and
Caterpillar, and a range of SMEs across different industries. I have established a research group, namely RFID
Advanced Research. The core research is to explore innovative RFID functions to enhance the
competitiveness in the supply chain/manufacturing to achieve rapid responsiveness, cost optimisation and
system efficiency. RFID Advanced Research is a member of the EU RACE networkRFID.
