On December 8, 2021, Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies Khon Kaen University Prof. Monchai Duangjinda and the team were invited to a meeting with Udon Thani Provincial Livestock Office by the head of the Livestock Promotion and Development Group, Mr. Suphawat Srichet, Thai Buffalo Conservation and Development Association and Ban Chiang National Museum by Director of Ban Chiang National Museum, Ms. Kanokwalai Suriyatham, Mayor of Ban Chiang Sub-district, Major Sumeth Khamphiman, and livestock officials, Udon Thani Province, more than 20 people. Science Park transfers technology to the community, promoting indigenous raw material for producing “Gluten-free protein noodles” and functional food market
This project began when the Science Park, KKU conducted a survey and evaluated the community needs. It was found that the Insect Enterprise Group of Chumphae Distruct, Khon Kaen, had been working on cricket farming and manufacturing certain product from Chumphae Thapthim Rice. This kind of rice is red in color like pomegranate and also contains high quantity of antioxidants, namely, phenolic and flavonoids. The group wanted to make their existing raw material into a new product, the cricket-powdered protein noodle from Chumphae Thapthim rice flour. The Science Park therefore contacted specialized researchers for the group. The researchers transferred the required technologies and manufacturing process to the Insect Enterprise Group. The group was assisted through the development of protein noodles until the noodles had the satisfactory texture and do not tear apart easily. The noodles add to the nutritious value to the consumers, especially those with celiac disease. The outcome of this project assists the community enterprise to have its own appropriate manufacturing formula with high standard. It also builds opportunities to expand the market of health food, leading to increase of incomes and employment and in the long-run self- dependency and sustainability.
The Tech-transfer to Community activity is an area-based Innovation for community, which has been allocated budget under the project to upgrade the rural economy and quality of life with knowledge, wisdom and innovation, which is a project of the Science, Research and Innovation Promotion and Coordination Division, Office of the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation. August 13, 2021 – Faculty of Agriculture, Khon Kaen University organized an online workshop via Google Meet on “Development of Business Plans for Community Products” under the University to Tambon or U2T Project for Ban Thaen Sub-district, Chonnabot District, Khon Kaen and Khok Snga Sub-district, Phon District, Khon Kaen. Participants included implementers of the Project and entrepreneurs in the area. This Project – Integrated Sub-district Socio-Economic Upgrading – is led by Asst. During Covid-19 pandemic, which results in a staggering number of patients, hospitals’ patient treatment and care system has been overcrowded and can no longer bed a lot of patients. The country found it vital to design a new system to accommodate the patients by asking those with minor symptoms or the patients labeled ‘green’ to rest at home, or what is called ‘Home Isolation’. The Learning Experiment Project for the 21st Century is under the collaboration of the Office of the Secretary of the Education Council and Faculty of Education, Khon Kaen University, Office of Basic Education Commission and Department of Local Government Promotion. The objective is to develop innovative competency of learners. The project’s first meeting was held on May 13, 2021 through the online system, with Dr. Amnat Wichayanuwat, General Secretary of the Education Council presiding over the meeting. In his opening speech, Dr. Amnat assigned the policy to be implemented. Among attendants was Dr. Usanee Thanosawan, Vice General Secretary of the Education Council. Assoc. Cholangiocarcinoma Research Institution is seeking approaches for the Nongkungsri Model with an aim to solve the liver fluke and cholangiocarcinoma problems
March 4, 2021, at the Conference Room of Nongkungsri District Public Health Office – the Cholangiocarcinoma Research Institute, Khon Kaen University, led by Prof. Dr. Narong Khanteekaew, M.D., Director of the Institute and his team joined the meeting to determine the approaches for eradicating liver fluke and cholangiocarcinoma at Nongkungsri District, Kalasin. Mr. Somdee Khottasaeng, Public Health Officer of Nongkungsri District presided over the meeting.
The meeting agendum included the finding of approaches for participatory and integrated implementation to solve the problems of liver fluke disease and cholangiocarcinoma in Nongkungsri District. This Nongkungsri Model is a collaboration between KKU and the Quality of Life Development Committee of the District. Over 20 people attended the meeting. The common goals were to reduce the number of patients with liver fluke disease and screen the patients with the diseases so that they receive treatment as soon as possible. The spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19) has brought problems to the country’s economy, with many people including newly graduates being unemployed. A lot of university students have been affected. Many unemployed people have to move back to their hometown. These, in turn, cause social problems. The national socio-economic restoring policy is thus emphasizing economic revival at the community level, through job building and occupational development so that the people can rely on themselves according to the sufficiency economy philosophy. The government is therefore seeking support from the over 80 public universities in all regions to act as the System Integrator that integrates socio-economic revival process systematically (Area Based System Integrator) at the sub-district level. This is carried out through utilization of existing bodies of knowledge, technologies and innovations and through coordination and cooperation with the provinces, local administrative organizations and other relevant organizations so that the integration of work will upgrade the sub-district socio-economic conditions, leading to clarified goal of poverty mitigation. ...

Faculty of Agriculture, Khon Kaen University has developed an area on campus at the Agricultural Technology Park to grow flowers such as cutters and margarets. The project creates a learning space, a practicum venue, and a real practicing place for the students. Moreover, the area is another tourism alternative. Khon Kaen is launching Ban Saen Tor, the first GAP cricket village in Thailand and is ready to proceed with work in developing Khon Kaen as a city of crickets, our future food.
Mr. Sattha Kochapalayuk, Khon Kaen Vice Governor explained that crickets are one out of the 6 cash animals promoted by Khon Kaen Province. Ban Saen Tor has been selected as the cricket farming model for study visits. Budget will be sought for developing Ban Saen Tor as a cricket product outlet of the province. The village is now one of the targeted villages under the Northeast Cricket Farmers Project that aims at progressing toward safe and standard manufacturing. The project is headed by Assoc. Prof. Rangsan Niamsanit and is under Khon Kaen University’s Strategic Research and Coordination Institute for Northeast Development.
