Bienestar T&N is ready to join hands with KKU on magic mushroom research

 

 

On November 10, 2022, Mr. Niphon Phankiatphaisan, Chief Executive Officer, and Mr. Soontorn Areerak, Chief Marketing Officer, along with the research team from Bienestar T&N Company limited, which experts in growing medical cannabis in Thailand, met with Professor Monchai Duangjinda, Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies and Professor Pewpan Maleewong, Assistant to the President for Research and Graduate Studies, to discuss the cooperation on research on the main psychoactive component of magic mushroom that has the effect of treating various diseases.

Studies from foreign countries found that Thai magic mushrooms are more potent than foreign ones. Moreover, Khon Kaen University is also an area that has been designated as a planting and research magic mushroom area. Therefore, the company is interested in research cooperation from upstream and midstream which is the planting and extraction to find essential substances that can be used in medicine. The magic mushroom extract can be industrialized and exported if the research is successful. 

From this meeting, the company will return to study the details and a draft Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on researching magic mushrooms with Khon Kaen University. In addition, the company also expressed interest in cooperation in the downstream of cannabis hemp, which will be discussed with Khon Kaen University in the future.
