June 17, 2021 at the Learning Center, 3rd Floor, Building 1, KKU Library – The Digital Section of Khon Kaen University held a transferring ceremony of the Mini-Production House sets for producing teaching media for online instruction to all faculties. Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D., President of Khon Kaen University presided over the ceremony, while Asst. Prof. Denpong Soodphakdee, Ph.D., Vice President for Digital conveyed a reporting speech on the objectives of the event. Over 60 people attended including deans and lecturers from all faculties.
June 17, 2021, Khon Kaen University’s Digital Section transferred the Mini–Production House sets, a media producing device, to all faculties to promote quick and easy teaching aids production that enable self–learning, a new teaching paradigm of KKU.
The transferring ceremony of the Mini-Production House sets for producing teaching media for online instruction to all faculties was under the University’s online lesson production project that promotes quick and simple production of learning media among lecturers. The device can also be used to produce digital learning media that responds to the new paradigm of teaching and learning of KKU.
Asst. Prof. Denpong Soodphakdee, Vice President for Digital said that this mini–production house emerged from the concept to develop efficient and quality online lessons that can be done by all faculties.

Prof. Denpong Soodphakdee, Vice President for Digital said that the Digital Section and the Teaching and Learning Innovation Center hold the transferring ceremony today under the intention of the President to have all the faculties develop their online lessons with high quality and efficiency. Because of Covid-19 situation, the production house will enable lecturers to better produce their teaching aids, which were formally done on their office desks.
Khon Kaen University has provided the Mini Production houses to support lecturers to simply produce their own teaching media. The device consists of a green backdrop, a lighting set, a computer, a screen, a camera and tripod, and a desk, all of which are easily movable for outdoor media production.
“The Mini-Production House set consists of a green backdrop, a lighting set, a computer, a screen, a camera and tripod, and a desk. All of these are foldable and easily movable, ready for media production outdoors. After a lecturer has produced the instruction media, if it is for the course instruction, the Teaching and Learning Innovation Center will place it on KKU e-learning for dissemination. If it is a lesson for short training or a Non-Degree program, the KKU Next will ensure that people from outside can have access to learn without having to build a new server. After today, the Teaching and Learning Innovation team will work with lecturers from each faculty and the media production team so that the Mini-Production House will be used to its optimum benefit,” explained the Vice President for Digital.
Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D., President of Khon Kaen University said that Khon Kaen University is attempting to transform the teaching and learning of the University from the Teaching Paradigm to the Learning Paradigm, or from the former approach where lecturers emphasize lecturing to learning that emphasizes in turn the learners’ thinking process. “Universities abroad teach their students to think more than to know. When they graduate, their knowledge cannot be compared to Thai graduates. But when time passes, their graduates are able to acquire more knowledge while Thai graduates do not do so. Besides, if we teach our students to know but not to think, then they will not be able to create innovation and technology to add values to their products. This is why Thailand cannot manufacture high-value goods. Therefore, education is our hope; we should prepare graduates who are able to add values to products. This will make Thailand free from the trap of a middle-income country.”
“One learning paradigm that KKU is attempting to make it more concrete is to transform teachers from transferring knowledge to teachers who act as coaches. Online learning enables us to build this learning process. If students in our class understand only 20%, when they read or watch more, their understanding can increase to 40 %. But if the students practice with their hands, the understanding increases to 60%. Therefore, online learning will support the new learning paradigm by instilling thinking to the students. Instead of lecturing, we can let the students read by themselves at home. At the class meeting, the teacher then checks if the students really know what they have read. There can be a tutorial hour where questions are raised for the students to answer. If they answer correctly, that means they understand. If they answer wrongly, then they do not understand.”
This project had been allocated an amount of budget for procuring basic devices, and each faculty should proceed by adding to the ‘house’. At least the Mini-Production House can help each faculty to enable their lecturers to produce their own teaching media that will be of higher quality. They can produce it quickly and simply as well.
After the President’s address, the Mini-Production House sets are transferred to the representative from each faculty to be used for their instructional development purposes.
