July 21, 2021, 09.45-12.40 hrs, the International Affairs Division (IAD), Khon Kaen University (KKU), together with the Research and Graduate Studies Affairs, arrange an online workshop under the topic “Awarding NIH international research grants” for academic staff and researchers, in order to be informed about and understand the terms and conditions of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), USA. Also, to be a forum for exchanging knowledge with experienced speakers who have already received research grants from this funding source. This event was honoured by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nawarat Wara-Aswapati Charoen, Vice President for International Affairs, who presided over the opening ceremony, along with Asst. Prof. Dr. Acharawan Topark-Ngarm, Assistant to the President for International Affairs who also attended the event. In this workshop, more than 67 faculty members, researchers, graduate students and interested parties participated through the Zoom online meeting.
Associate Professor Dr. Nawarat Wara-Aswapati Charoen said, “To gain NIH grants requires strong cooperation from both internal personnel and reputable universities or institutions abroad. NIH grants will result in the co-publication of joint research. Often these are researches with high referral scores or citations and very high impact, resulting in Khon Kaen University becoming more famous or gaining reputation and aiming to become “A World-Leading Research & Development University”. In order to realize that vision, the International Affairs Division is now working closely with the Research and Graduate Studies Affairs to create a research ecosystem with the world’s leading institutes, and to prepare researchers to apply for research grants abroad. The NIH Institute, USA, is a medical research agency in the United States. that focuses on research on health and well-being of the global community. It provides funding to more than 300,000 researchers/scientists worldwide, or more than 2,500 institutions per year. Therefore, it is an important opportunity and an interesting source of foreign fundings, and KKU should encourage lecturers and researchers to access this funding source.”
Consequently, this workshop will help to encourage KKU faculty members and researchers to prepare and develop research skills in health sciences in cooperation with well-known institutions in foreign countries, and to increase the proportion of citations of published research papers by institutes that determine the QS World University Rankings in the future. So today is a great opportunity for KKU lecturers and researchers to attend the workshop and participate in training activities with experienced and expert speakers directly.
