The Cellular Therapy Center is a center aiming to increase the efficiency of treatment of diseases from physical deterioration and chronic diseases by using platelet-rich plasma. The Center will be offering treatment for knee ostoearthritis, chronic wounds, conditions of thinning and falling hair, and natural face rejuvenating.
April 5, 2023 – Khon Kaen University held an opening ceremony of the Cellular Therapy Center. Dr. Narongchai Akrasanee, Chairman of Khon Kaen University Council presided over the ceremony and Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D., President of Khon Kaen University presented the reporting speech. Among distinguished attendants were Assoc. Prof. Apichat Jirawutthipong, M.D., Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University; Asst. Prof. Wiyada Panjarak, Ph.D., Acting Director of the Cellular Therapy Center; and a number of administrators. The opening ceremony took place at the Cellular Therapy Center, 8th Floor, Galayani Vadhana Building, Srinagarind Hospital, Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University.
Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, M.D., President of Khon Kaen University reported that the Cellular Therapy Center of Khon Kaen University is established as an enterprise under the Office of the President of Khon Kaen University, in accordance with the Announcement of Khon Kaen University, issued on February 14, 2023. The Center is to be an excellent medical center for cellular therapy treatment, for developing advanced medical innovations and technologies in internationally standardized cellular therapy. The Center will be emphasizing works on research studies and development of treatment methods for chronic diseases and diseases occurring from physical deterioration and various conditions. Treatment of cancer will also be one mission through the use of cellular immunotherapy. Both medical services and alternative treatment by cellular therapy, in this regard, will be done according to the vision of the “Excellence Cellular Therapy Center that Offers Alternative Medical Treatment with Advanced Medical Innovations and Technologies.”
Dr. Narongchai Akrasanee, Chairman of Khon Kaen University Council said that the Cellular Therapy Center of Khon Kaen University is the center providing alternative medical service using cellular therapy, which will support the treatment and increase the efficiency in the treatment of diseases occurring from physical deterioration and other chronic diseases including cancer. Besides, cellular therapy is useful in promoting healthiness and slowing down deterioration of cells in the body. It is the medical innovation that will respond to the aging-society situation of Thailand. Therefore, it is a good chance for patients and people in general in the Northeast to be able to receive treatment by advanced medical innovations and technologies in cellular therapy. The great ultimate benefits will be towards the society and the country.
Asst. Prof. Wiyada Panjarak, Ph.D., Acting Director of the Cellular Therapy Center of the Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University, said that the Cellular Therapy Center is emphasizing development of alternative medical innovations using advanced technologies of simple cellular therapy treatment. During the initial stage, the Center will offer services in platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy, which can cover treatments of many aspects such as knee osteoarthritis – suitable for first-stage patients – that will lessen knee pain and slow down deterioration of knee joints and treatment of chronic wounds. PRP will help in stimulating cell building and building of new blood vessels that assist in the wound-recovery process. However, the wound recovery rate also depends on rinsing and caring by the patients. The other medical treatments the Center will be dealing with are: treating hair thinning and falling conditions (PRP will assist in strengthening hair roots and lessening hair fall, by quality control of the amount of PRP to be injected at each point), and PRP-based face rejuvenation by stimulating facial collagen building, reducing melisma, freckles, and spots, and assisting in rejuvenating the facial skin by lessening wrinkles.
Treatment offered at the Cellular Therapy Center is divided into the following 4 categories:
1) Platelet-rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy – treatment by using platelet-rich plasma from the patient. This is done by extracting the patient’s blood to obtain concentrated platelet or PRP. Then this is injected back in the patient. In the future, PRP treatment will be taken from donors who are physically strong and healthy, for treating other patients without having to stimulate the immune (Universal treatment).
2) Stem Cell Therapy – development of methods in selecting stem cells with good quality and stability from various stem cells sources. These are then cultured and augmented to be used in regenerative medicine and increasing efficiency of treatment by stimulating repair, rehabilitation and replacement of deteriorating cells. Usefulness will be obtained in slowing down aging.
3) PRP-Combining Stem Cell Therapy – treatment by PRP together with stem cells based on the property of PRP, which is a good environment for the appropriate growth of stem cells and can make stem cells develop into suitable cells for further treatment.
4) Cell-Free Therapy – development of treatment by stimulating stem cells to give out useful matters that will provoke communications among cells and hence resulting in repair and rehabilitation of cells.
