Background

Sugarcane research needs experienced and expert researchers as co-ordinators who work harmoniously with national network in order to determine the research directions and development of research questions to solve the problems of sugarcane and sugar production at regional and national levels. Northeast Thailand sugarcane research center has the experienced and expert researchers and network of government and private sectors. The center can play a central role in co-ordinating the participants for meeting and determining research questions and responsibility of all parties depending on expertise and knowledge. This management is able to reduce duplication of the research and increase the efficiency of personnel and budget which is limited. The establishment of the northeast Thailand sugarcane research center is an important strategy to develop sugarcane and sugar industry in the Northeast. The research activities of the center include determining the research directions and responsibility of researchers and research planning. The activities can reduce duplication of the research and allow the researchers to jointly use the research facilities for generation of knowledge body, varietal improvement, production improvement, technology transfer and training and development of new researchers. To achieve the goals, academic institutes especially for Khon Kaen University, which locates at the hub of the industry in the Northeast, should play an important role in these research activities for sustainable production of sugarcane and sugar of the country.

Goal & Mission

Goal

To develop sugarcane varietal and production technologies for sustainability of the industry and increase the competition ability of sugarcane industry in Thailand.

Mission

The center has five principal missions.

  1. To develop new sugarcane varieties and new technology for sugarcane production
  2. To generate knowledge body for supporting varietal improvement and sugarcane production
  3. To train new sugarcane researchers
  4. To transfer technology to the users

5. To develop research network, train new researchers and transfer technology to users
